Integrating General Health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment – SAMHSA Announced Proposed Rules

AAHD, as a member of the Partnership To Amend 42 CFR, Part 2, has expressed its appreciation to SAMHSA to align SUD medical records with HIPAA, to encourage integration of general health care with SUD treatment. Affordable Care Act – Preventing Discrimination in Health Insurance Coverage (3) – Disability Community Comments

AAHD has joined the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) expressing concern to/on HHS regulations on discrimination prevention under the Affordable Care Act. The August 13 comments are available here: PDF.

State Attorneys General – Promote Integrated SUD & General Health Records; Repeal Medicaid IMD Exclusion

The National Association of (State) Attorneys General have written the U.S. Congress recommending that existing substance use disorder health records regulations (42 CFR Part 2) be replaced and that the existing Medicaid IMD (institutions for mental diseases) exclusion be repealed. CMS and HHS “Patients Over Paperwork” Initiative (2)

AAHD has joined the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid (ITEM) Coalition responding to the CMS-HHS request for information to reduce regulatory barriers in the context of “putting patients over paperwork” initiative. The ITEM letter discusses wheelchair technology and specialized therapies unique to persons with disabilities. The August 12 letter is here: PDF.
