POPULATION SERVED: Youth between the ages of 16-24
SERVICE TYPE: The Millennium Volunteers Sports Network North West is a sports project for young people who want to be involved in, plan and deliver sports activities as a volunteer.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Millennium Volunteers are invited to commit 200 hours of time to sports volunteering within a year. In order to help in planning and carrying out volunteering activities, volunteers are supported by a mentor, or a person who will work in partnership with the volunteer to develop his or her confidence, skills, knowledge, potential, talent and contacts. The mentor could be: someone the volunteer already knows; someone whose advice the volunteer trusts; someone who is involved in the sports the volunteer is into; or, someone who the volunteer may not know, but someone from whom the volunteer will be able to get lots of valuable support. The volunteer and mentor will work together to help complete the Volunteer Plan. In a similar way, together, they plan, review and record the sports voluntary activities as they go along. The volunteer meets with his or her mentor regularly to discuss progress, successes, problems, strengths and weaknesses and identify any training or development needs.
