Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance (MOVA)

MOVA administers the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) victim assistance program in Massachusetts, which provides funding currently to 69 state and community based organizations that offer free mental health counseling, advocacy, and a range of other specialized services for crime victims. Funding is on a three year cycle. Although all funded agencies may serve victims with disabilities, eight agencies identified specifically providing services to this population, in areas such as assistance with filing restraining orders, finding shelter, meeting transportation needs, providing counseling and advocacy for victims with special needs, etc. VOCA conducted a statewide needs assessment that resulted in services for victims with disabilities were identified as one need to be prioritized in the RFR.
