AAHD Exploring Developing Chapters

AAHD’s board of directors is looking into establishing AAHD chapters to help us carry out our mission. As our organization has grown — with the 2008 launching of Disability and Health Journal and the 2009 scholarship program — the board believes next year might be an optimal time to create AAHD chapters around the country. The chapters would provide a mechanism for educating the general public within communities and states about the importance of integrating health promotion and wellness interventions for children and adults with disabilities into community and state programs.

AAHD is researching existing chapter models to consider all the options and establish appropriate criteria. Our chapters could become involved in a variety of activities, such as: 1) developing local speaker programs, 2) participating in state and community coalitions and working groups (private and public), 3) co-sponsoring meetings, conferences and webinars, and 4) disseminating information from AAHD and our partners. We will keep readers and members apprised of our progress toward an exciting future.
