Format             Initiative

The goal of AAIDD’s environmental health initiative is to promote good health and reduce disability by developing partnerships among the developmental disabilities networks and the environmental health communities, in order to raise awareness about links between exposure to neurotoxic chemicals and developmental disabilities, and to raise awareness that those living with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities may be at greater risk of secondary health effects from toxic exposures than individuals without disabilities.   AAIDD has established an Advisory Board and three workgroups to put its policy, research, and educational recommendations into action.  Journal articles and environmental health resources are included on the AAIDD’s website.
